AFSCS Charity – Summer Club
The African French Speaking Community Support (AFSCS) exists to advance the development and integration of African French speaking communities living in the UK through the promotion of civic responsibility, good citizenship, social empowerment support, guidance and a voice of influence for the communities. We aim to enable our members to integrate as citizens; improving spoken English and education standards; improving health & wellbeing; enhancing training and lifelong learning. Welfare support is at the core of our activities.
The AFSCS’s objectives are:
• the prevention and relief of financial hardship in people of African ethnic origin whose first language is French residing in England and Wales
• providing or assisting in the provision of education, training, healthcare projects and all necessary support designed to enable individuals to generate a sustainable income and be self-sufficient.
• The development of the capacity and skills of the socially and economically disadvantaged communities of French speaking African Countries so that they are better able to identify and meet their own needs and participate more fully in society.
• The provision of a comprehensive range of advice and information on a wide range of issues such as applying for citizenship; benefit checks; housing matters; anti-social behaviour, Job search, reducing social isolation and Befriending.
• The provision of outreach activities to meet beneficiaries who need help especially regarding interpretation, translation, and bilingual service provision.

What activities are offered?
Our Summer HAF 2025 programme provides a diverse and engaging set of weekly activities for children and young people aged 5 to 16 who receive benefits-related free school meals. The programme will run throughout the summer holiday and aims to keep children healthy, active, and enriched during the break.
Activities include:
- Arts & Crafts – creativity through painting and drawing
- Healthy Eating Workshops -Each week includes a healthy eating element where children will prepare simple nutritious snacks, take part in taste tests, and learn about food groups, all in a fun and informal way
- Music Workshops – children will attend Guitar and Keyboard Music Workshops, learning basic chords, melodies, and rhythm
-
What makes this activity unique?
We are delivering a programme which allows children to showcase their creativity, socialise with peers, learn and share different cultures and learn about the importance of taking pride in their work which builds confidence. These sessions are a great, safe way to discover that it’s okay to make mistakes which will lead to new ideas as it is a learning cycle.
All our activities are incredibly inclusive, accessible and have no commitment whatsoever and above all, they open the doors to children of all gender

What are the benefits?
Over the past few years, we have built trusted relationships with families, local schools, and community partners, ensuring effective outreach and participation. Our team includes qualified activity leaders, tutors, and trained volunteers who understand the needs of children with SEND, language barriers, or from low-income households.
